(Rec) Ownership, IP, & Governance of Data
Wednesday, October 7, 2015 2:30:00 PM UTC - Monday, October 7, 2019 3:30:00 PM UTC
Physical and intellectual property rights surrounding academic research data are among the most confusing elements of research data management. As funding agencies, policy makers, and publishers encourage researchers to share their data openly, clarity on data ownership becomes increasingly important. Information professionals need to understand their institution’s policies on data ownership as well as the rights of researchers in order to create thorough data management plans and to assign data rights statements that encourage secondary reuse. This webinar will frame some of the complications around data ownership by discussing relevant case law, University policies, competing stakeholders, and legal mechanisms for sharing data.
