Implementing a System Wide Alarm, Alert and Notification Plan Featuring a Case Study by Advocate Aurora Health Wednesday, March 4, 2020 6:00:00 PM Coordinated Universal Time - 7:00:00 PM Coordinated Universal Time
During this webinar, Advocate Aurora Health and Philips will discuss the components to consider when implementing a system-wide alarm management strategy in order to improve patient care and support patient safety by reducing non-actionable alarms, noise, and alarm fatigue. They will discuss how to establish a governance structure in order to ensure alignment across an organization. A current-state assessment process will be shared including their findings pertaining to alarm data, monitoring and alarm processes and practices, technology use and understanding, and culture. The process of moving from the assessment to identification of improvement opportunities to the selection of changes to pilot using a co-create methodology will be reviewed. They will also cover the pilot implementation plans along with the outcomes and impact of the piloted changes of a recent program. Lessons learned and the on-going Advocate Aurora Health and Philips collaboration in this area will be discussed.
Throughout the webinar, the presenters will identify published best practices related to alarm and noise management and potential additional research areas. They will also review a “Framework for Alarm Management Process Maturity” that was developed and published by an AAMI Foundation Task Force that incorporates concepts used by high-reliability organizations and how hospitals can use this model to determine where they are in their alarm management strategy.
